Yep, I cleared the nefarious induction on-call list and will be arriving at the hospital, husband in tow, bright and early Wednesday morning. This assumes the little lady doesn't decide to show up tomorrow, but I highly doubt she will.
Again, there will be no real-time or even close to it updates here of the birth process or the immediate aftermath, but I do intend to post when we get home with our brand-new little person, which will hopefully be sometime on Friday.
Yay fo babeh!
December 7, 2009
I can haz babeh? Plz?
Today I am 39 weeks and 5 days pregnant (as you can tell from the ticker in my title bar above). Yes, I am aware - painfully so these days - that pregnancy is supposed to last 40 weeks. My due date, which is December 9th aka Wednesday, is exactly 40 weeks from the official start of my pregnancy, which was March 4th. Therefore, I shouldn't expect that the baby will arrive before Wednesday, right?
Well, technically, that's correct. I shouldn't expect to see the baby before Wednesday. But I would really like to see her before then. Mostly because I've spent the better part of the last week and a half either a) dealing with pre-labor symptoms and pains that never last more than a few hours at a stretch or b) trying every trick in the book to get labor to start and keep going. Nothing has happened. The closer we get to Christmas, the more desperate I get to have this kiddo appear sooner rather than later.
I am "on call" for an induction on Wednesday. The hospital where I will deliver only does inductions for first-time moms on that day of the week, so it's either I clear the on-call list this Wednesday or I have to wait until next Wednesday. Sure, I guess I could go into real labor on my own prior to the 16th, but I'm rapidly losing faith in my body here. I don't think it knows what to do. Maybe I shouldn't be so pessimistic, but the more start-and-stop labor I experience, the less confidence I have that I can avoid an induction - whether it be this week or next.
Anyway, this "poor me" post is the replacement for a Musings post this week. I can't really focus on much beyond my frustration right now. Blech.

Monday Musings, No. 1 Vol. 29
I am on my first full week of maternity/medical/pregnancy/whatever leave. I have been very productive today, despite the fact that I really should be just sitting on my tuchus and eating everything in the house. Okay, that last part isn't true...eating isn't very much fun when you're almost 39 weeks pregnant and your stomach has been squished to the size of a cherry tomato. I got 99 problems but a muse ain't one...
The last two days have been less than enjoyable because of pre- (or maybe just false) labor. What it feels like is having your belly all tight and hurty but nothing really happens. It just feels bad.
I can't stop reading the TMZ updates about the Tiger Woods 'accident'...and I'd like to say - and the husband can back me up here - that I KNEW the initial story was crap. Any gossip whore would have b/c the news about his alleged mistress came out the day before this 'accident'. If in fact he was skanking around, good on Elin for her tantrum. That girl does NOT play.
The Niners won this week against the semi-lowly Jaguars, which makes me happy. What doesn't make me happy is that MJD laid a fantasy stinkbomb in the game.
I still haven't put up any Christmas decorations. I think the husband would at least like to get the (fake) tree up, but I don't want to help. I hate putting that thing together.
We should know soon if the Vandals are bowl-bound...but after their last two games, I don't know if they really deserve to go. I know our regular QB has been hurt but good lord...the defense is still really, really horrible.
My copy of Le Petit Prince has gone missing, which distresses me. I've had that book since high school and now it's nowhere to be found. I wanted to read it to the baby, so she can be all fancy and hear French words early on. Maybe I should just buy a replacement and stop whining about the fact that mine is lost.
I'm still working on my birthday/Christmas wish lists. I have some items in mind, but nothing that special.
Today, I was looking through the leave paperwork that my doctor's office filled out and sent to the company that handles MY company's medical leaves of absence and inadvertently saw my most recent weight - taken last Wednesday at my 38wk appt. Ugh. I hope this kid weighs a lot or I have my work cut out for me to lose the gestation flab.
Finally, I wouldn't count on this blog for up to the minute updates of and labor and/or delivery progress. I'll be sure to post after the kidlet arrives, but I'm not committing to any timetable. It may happen while I'm still in the hospital and it may have to wait until we get home with her. But rest assured, readers, there WILL be baby news here at some point.

Monday Musings, No. 1 Vol. 28 (Tuesday edition)
My friend Alison so kindly reminded me on Facebizzle that I didn't post any Musings yesterday, but I had already realized this while in the shower this morning. I think of a lot of stuff in the shower, which is bad, because as soon as I turn the water off, I forget most of what I thought about. And that's not a pregnancy problem, it's a Tiffiny problem. Anyway, musings are a go...
Tomorrow I will be 38 weeks pregnant with the bambina. She is officially out of room and I'm officially out of patience. She needs to decide to come out already.
Today is my last day at work! Well, until I return from my maternity leave in February. I'm giddy with excitement at this. I realize I'm not getting a 12-week vacation, but at least I get some time away from worky work, which I desperately need after the year I've had.
Dear Steve Blake, you suck.
My birthday is in just over three weeks, but I really don't know what I want (I mean, if the kiddo's still inside of my body, I want her OUT as a gift) this year. And let's face it, it's not like turning 29 is anything awesome. Just another year closer to the dreaded 3-0.
The husband and I have established a Shutterfly account for baby photos and the like. If you have my email address and would like to be included on the account to view photos, send me a note and I'll add you post haste.
Maddie and Boris have decided that they don't have to listen to me anymore. This is very frustrating.
The new work laptop has been a DREAM this past week. I didn't realize just how truly awful and slow my old one was. I guess it's like getting an HDTV after never having one before...you can never go back to enjoying regular DTV.
I've been cataloging all the stuff in my cubicle to determine what I feel safe leaving out for three months (office supplies, phone headset) and what I don't (complete set of Blazer bobbleheads, I Heart Jim mug, personal photos). I'm locking all the 'Do Not Leave Out' stuff in a cabinet before I leave today...just in case.
I really like apple butter.
And finally, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I have a lot to be thankful for this year, and I hope all my readers do as well. And to Dad...I'm always thankful for you and I miss you oodles and love you gobs.

Monday Musings, No. 1 Vol. 27
Just making it through a day without a nap these days is nearly impossible. I have no energy left and I don't sleep well at all, so I'm dragging ass (a fat pregnant one, at that) around pretty much every minute I'm awake. The last month of pregnancy really sucks. With that said, let's get our muse ON...
The baby will officially be considered full-term on Wednesday, when I hit the 37 week mark. That means I can try all the 'tried and true' methods of getting labor to start naturally. Not that I think any of them are going to work, but I guess it's worth a try.
We're having BFD tonight. BFD is Breakfast For Dinner, and I love it. If you don't, you're a freak.
I thought about giving up on the Real Housewives of Orange County this season, but I couldn't. They just suck me in every time. It's a nice familiar trainwreck.
Almost time to bust out the Christmas decor. I'm very excited to get some new things for the tree this year and decorate our new house. Assuming my tired self can actually DO the decorating...
I'm hungry all the time these days. I could eat about every hour, but I don't wanna weigh 200 lbs by the time this kidlet is ready to come out.
The husband is planning to get his H-Bowl tickets soon...assuming the Vandies get an invite to play in it. An outdoor football game in Boise, in late December, is NOT happening for me. Nor the bambina. But I'm sure he'll have a good time.
On the baking docket: molasses crinkles. I looooooove homemade molasses crinkles.
I have a lot of thoughts about the final two episodes of Mad Men, but I don't want to post them here in case I would spoil them for any of you fine readers. But I can sum them up thusly: Hoo Buddy.
I miss beer right now a LOT. A LOT.

Monday Musings, No. 1 Vol. 26
I'm a day late (and likely a dollar short) on the Musings, but you will have to forgive me. Yesterday I had a crazy day at work and by the end of it, I was too tired to attempt a blog posting. I'm generally ready for a nap at 5pm every day now, but that's the same time I start to get hungry for dinner so it's a catch-22. Some people can sleepwalk, I wonder if I could try sleepeating? Hmm...
The Niners lost AGAIN this week. I'm officially putting the team On Notice. Colbert-style.
Tomorrow I get a new work laptop, which is the highlight of my month. (I would say highlight of the year, but the baby is probably a better answer for that.) I've had this dinosaur for over FOUR YEARS and it's definitely on its way to extinction. Waaaay past time for an upgrade.
I've been eating asian pears at work b/c of our free fruit program. I would never pay for asian pears, even though they are delicious. They are about $4/lb at the store, which is ridiculous. But I'll eat one everyday when they're free.
The dogs are getting crazier every day. I think they sense the baby's coming soon. They are driving me crazier too.
The husband and I are planning a quiet Thanksgiving for two and I'm excited. I think that instead of turkey, we'll have some good steaks.
We're thisclose to deciding on a daycare for the baby. The husband never went to daycare as a kid, so they kinda freak him out, but I'm trying to assure him that they are not bad places. At least, the one we're leaning towards isn't.
My work leave starts in just over two weeks. Hooray!
Just a thought: if we're not including any federal funds for abortions in the health care bill(s), then let's make sure that male enhancement drugs aren't covered either. Tit for tat.
Once we get the comfy chair brought home and the curtains hung in the baby's nursery, it'll be finished. I'm definitely looking forward to having this done, even though she'll sleep in our room for the first few months anyway.
I need a haircut badly. But I'm gonna wait until after the baby arrives. This is probably a dumb idea, but to be honest, I'm too braindead these days to decide what I want done with my hair.
Vandals are at Boise State this weekend for the rivalry game. I don't think the Vandals will win but I hope they are competitive. On a related note, I hate 98% of BSU fans.

Monday Musings, No. 1 Vol. 25
This was a crazy weekend...we went to the ol' alma mater for Homecoming weekend (yes, they scheduled it over Halloween) and watched our home team eke out a last second victory by ONE POINT. I nearly went into labor in the stands, but it was worth it. Let's muse...
Congrats to my good buddy Charles and his NEW fiancee, Andrea! They are perfect together and I'm ridiculously happy for them.
Another Blazers home game tomorrow night, this time against the Hawks. Right now the plan is to congregate at the Widmer Gasthaus in NoPo before the game, which is great. Except that I can't drink beer...but the food there is pretty good, so I can't complain.
Thank you to the unnamed parent who left a plastic bag full of his or her kids' Halloween candy on the table by the printer at work. My pregnant ass really needs the temptation. But yeah, I dug around in there and took a small pack of red Swedish Fish and a bite-size Butterfinger. I'm weak.
I'm wearing one of my pairs of argyle socks today. I love argyle.
Just over 5 weeks until D-Day. This Saturday we have a 'baby care and breastfeeding basics' class we're taking because neither the husband nor I know a dang thing about taking care of newborns.
The Niners lost again yesterday. I realize it was to a very good Colts team, but the thing is they were winning the damn game for 3.5 quarters...gah, frustrating.
I'm wearing a ridiculous fake 'diamond' solitaire with my wedding band, because my real engagement ring is back at the jeweler's in the hometown, getting some enhancements courtesy of the husband. I feel weird without a diamond, so I decided to wear this fake-ass ring just so I don't feel so weird but now I feel weirder. Hmm.
Speaking of the husband, that lame-ass 'elimination diet' he's been on for three weeks is up tomorrow. He's going to his quack of a doctor to inform that the diet did NOT fix anything and (hopefully) that he's a shitty doctor. Well, he probably won't tell him the second thing, but I wish he would. Regardless, it'll be nice to eat normal food for dinner again.
No more travel for this girl...I'm not leaving the great Portland metro area for a good long time. Time to nest and what not.
I love Christmas as much as the next person, but what I do NOT love is seeing Christmas stuff out in the stores before Halloween is even over. Jeebus.
3 weeks of work left before my leave starts. Yesssssssss.

Monday Musings, No. 1 Vol. 24
There isn't too much for me to muse about today - well, there is, but most of it is bitchy and/or mopey, so dear readers, I will spare you such crap. On the bright side, the NBA season opens tomorrow evening and the husband and I will be in attendance for the Blazers' home opener. I've been mildly-to-heavily intoxicated for the previous two years' opening night games, so being sober this year should be a nice change. Or not, depending on how the game goes...musings commence:
I got a new desk chair at work this morning and I'm in love. It's super comfortable and actually supports my lower back, unlike my old chair.
What is the best Halloween candy? I vote for the mini Reese's PB cups.
If I could have a dinner party right now with 4 people other than my husband, I'd pick the following: Joe Biden, Ron Artest, Angelina Jolie, and Will Ferrell. I can't even begin to imagine the conversation, but I think it would be off-the-charts insane.
No cankles. Or stretchmarks. So far.
Speaking of pregnant, my ribs are starting to take a lot of abuse, because the baby is getting a lot bigger now. She likes to stick her wee foot right up in there and puuuuuuush upwards and outwards. Ouchski.
If you haven't seen the trailer yet for An Education, you should. It looks amazing.
My leave starts in just over four weeks. Thanks God, because I'm tired and I need a break from work.
Open memo to Billy Ray and What's-Her-Name Cyrus: just because your older daughter is a hopeless skank, doesn't mean your younger one should be too. Yeah, I saw those pictures of the Younger Cyrus Skank at a Halloween party over the weekend. Disgusting - she makes those kids on Toddlers and Tiaras look normal.
Is a Diaper Genie really worth the money? Or is a Diaper Champ the way to go?
Homecoming is this weekend - heading back to the 'Scow for some fun and football. Hopefully it's fun football...after the Vandals' epic bed-crapping against Nevada on Saturday, I'm a little worried for the upcoming game against Louisana Tech.

Monday Musings - No. 1, Vol. 23
Last week was a bad week for me, blogging-wise. I just didn't have time or any interest to post something, so I mailed it in with my last post, just to keep my weekly posting goal intact. Weak, I know. It's been my desire since getting pregnant to avoid turning this into a Pregnancy Blog but it seems like 95% of my life these days revolves around the pregnancy and baby...however, I'm sticking to my promise to NOT let this become a mommy-to-be blog. Musings of the (mostly) non-pregnant variety commence:
Crate and Barrel has the best Christmas ornaments ever. I could decorate 5 10-foot-tall trees just with their stuff alone. I love Christmas ornaments, but seriously.
The Blazers are wrapping up preseason play soon and we still don't know who the starting point guard will be. I guess this is a 'good problem to have' but I don't see it that way. It makes me nervous.
The husband is on an 'elimination diet' right now to see if helps with a chronic throat problem (yeah, I don't get it either, whatever) which means I am also on a bit of the same diet. No wheat/gluten, no egg, no dairy...dinners have become less than fun around here lately. I hope the diet does NOT work so we can stop this nonsense and tomfoolery and get back to eating normal food.
The University of Idaho Vandal football team is BOWL ELIGIBLE, y'all! I have had NO reason to be excited about my college team for 11 years, but this year...well, it's nice to cheer for them. Gonna chase that feeling.
Okay, one pregnancy-related Musing: my discomfort factor has increased geometrically over the last two weeks...I worry this kidlet is going to be bigger than we thought. At the very least, she's gotta have some seriously long-ass legs judging by her 'reach' in there.
I'm getting the travel bug again. When I cannot travel. Boo-urns. Where do I want to go? Hawaii, because nothing's hotter than a pasty-white pregnant woman with a giant belly walking around in a bikini, right?
Nonfat greek yogurt is a snack I could eat every single day and not get tired of it.
Suzy Kolber has the sickest hair on a female sideline reporter I've seen in years. And I don't mean 'sick' in a good way. It's just extremely fugly.
I kinda want to see Where The Wild Things Are but I've heard it's a tearjerker and with me being on Hormone Overload, I just don't think it's a good idea right now.
I miss shopping for normal clothes. We were at the mall yesterday and I saw the cutest outfit in the window at Ann Taylor that I cannot wear. But I desperately want it.
The rainy fall weather has arrived here in Portland and it suuuuuuucks. It really does put me in a super Debbie Downer mood. I love living here most of the year, but from now until March, I hate it because of the stupid rain and cloudy skies.

Watching...
the season premiere of Nip/Tuck and I'm pleased that they decided to incorporate the economic downturn into the show's plot this season. Although, I do find that the casting of that sketchy Rose McGowan as Sean's girlfriend is rather sucky.
(I meant to do a real blog post this week, but I just haven't been overly inspired, so I didn't. Hopefully next week that will change...)
